PRIVACY POLICY

This Privacy Policy describes the privacy practices of Household Goods, Inc. (“we”, “us”, “our”) in connection with the work we do to provide a full range of donated furniture and household items, free of charge, to help people in need make a home.  Household Goods respects the privacy of all staff, donors, prospects, clients, volunteers and agencies.

Collection of Data

Household Goods collects and maintains the following types of  information when it is provided to us through online forms, donation receipts, client referrals, Volunteer registration, event registration:

  • Contact information such as name, address, telephone number and email address
  • Giving information (donors)
  • Information on events attended, publications received and special requests for program information
  • Dates of appointments, referring agency, number of adults and children, reason for referral and items taken (clients)
  • Information in the form of comments and suggestions
  • Other information that we may collect which is not specifically listed here, but which we use in accordance with this Privacy Policy or as otherwise disclosed at the time of collection.

Such information described above is referred to as “contact information” in this Privacy Policy.

Information we obtain from social media platforms. We may maintain pages on social media platforms, such as, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Google, YouTube, Instagram, and other third-party platforms. When you visit or interact with our pages on those platforms, the platform provider’s privacy policy will apply to your interactions and their collection, use and processing of your personal information. You or the platforms may provide us with information through the platform, and we will treat such information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

Storage of Data

Electronic information is maintained in a secured database. Only authorized personnel have access to this information and only for appropriate business purposes.

How We Use Contact Information

We use contact information in connection with the work we do to provide a full range of donated furniture and household items, free of charge, to help people in need make a home.  This may include, but is not limited to:

  • Providing, operating and improving the services we provide,
  • Providing necessary information to our Clients, Donors, Volunteers and Agencies about our services,
  • Understanding the needs and interests of our Clients, Donors, Volunteers and Agencies with respect to our services, 
  • Responding to requests, questions and feedback,

Donation information is kept on file for IRS purposes.  It is also used to analyze overall giving patterns in order to make more accurate budget projections, as well as to understand donors’ interests in our mission and to update them on the organization’s plans and activities.  This information is shared with staff, board members, volunteers and consultants only on a confidential and need-to-know basis.

Authorized Release of Information

Household Goods will use contact information as we believe necessary or appropriate to comply with applicable laws, lawful requests, and legal process, such as to respond to subpoenas or requests from government authorities.

Household Goods may use contact information and disclose it to law enforcement, government authorities and private parties as we believe necessary and appropriate to (a) protect our, your or other’s rights, privacy, safety or property; (b) enforce the terms and conditions that govern the work that we do; and (c) protect, investigate and deter against fraudulent, harmful, unauthorized, unethical or illegal activity.

In some cases, we may specifically ask for consent to collect, use or share your contact information, such as when required by law.

How We Share Contact Information

Annual Report

Household Goods may publish a list of the names of donors in an annual report. Donors can choose to remain anonymous and if they do so, will not be identified by name in the annual report.

Mailing Lists

Household Goods does not rent, sell, give away, or trade its lists of contacts or any information contained on those lists.  Such contact information is used by us for charitable purposes only as described in this Privacy Policy.

Service Providers

We may share contact information with third-party companies and individuals that provide services on our behalf or help us fulfill our mission (such as call or message routing, e-mail delivery, transportation services, and database hosting/management services). These third parties may use your personal information only as directed or authorized by us and in a manner consistent with this Privacy Policy, and are prohibited from using or disclosing your information for any other purpose.

Professional advisors. We may disclose contact information to professional advisors, such as lawyers, bankers, auditors and insurers, where necessary in the course of the professional services that they render to us.

For compliance, fraud prevention and safety. We may share contact information for the compliance, fraud prevention and safety purposes described above.

Your Choices

At any time persons may update their contact information, “opt- out” or be removed from our mailing lists and can unsubscribe to e-mails. Household Goods will maintain an electronic record in our database of all requests for discontinuance of donor contacts.

Text message communications. 

We use text messaging to communicate with you about your service. Normal messaging rates apply and the frequency of messages may vary. Mobile Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. 

No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. All other categories (for example, e-mail or phone call contact) exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.

Opt-out of text message communications. 

You may opt-out of text messaging at any time by replying to any message with STOP or contacting us at info@householdgoods.org.  This  will end the communications from that particular phone number. You may continue to receive service-related and other non-marketing text messages from other phone numbers managed by Household Goods, and you may opt out of those in a similar fashion.

Household Goods reserves the right to modify this Privacy Policy at any time.  Any modifications to this Policy will be effective upon our posting of the new terms (or as otherwise indicated at the time of posting).
